Cats vs. Plants

Updated: Mar 15

I was always someone who had plants in her life, greenery in her living room, flowers in front of her windows, and colorful violets on her balcony. I got my nickname from this love of violets and plants. My friends at the time gave me this name during my high school years. So many plants on a tiny balcony. My plants were so valuable that when the summer months came, I would send them to my grandmother when I wasn't home much so that they wouldn't be left alone at home without water or care.

The fact that I had many plants in my family home and that I liked taking care of them also affected my career choice. I became a plant biologist. Now I can't grow plants in my own home, so how did this happen?

Actually, I tried a few small things at first and bought succulents for the house. I thought they were easy to care for and could survive without water for a few days if I wasn't home. Then I brought pilea from my family home and propagated them there. Everything was great for the first 2 or 3 days. Things changed when my cat Limon bit a few leaves of the pilea. I tried to get Limon away from the plants but it didn't work. I took my plants to another room so that she couldn't reach them, and this time I caught her gnawing on the plant the second she caught the door open. The plants were dying. I said okay, let me put them in front of the window so they can recover a bit. This time, the cats outside didn't give me any peace. So I stopped buying potted plants and flowers for the house.

That's how I started buying plastic flowers for the house. The first ones I bought were the ones I bought as decoration for my engagement. When the engagement was over, I put them in a nice vase and decided to display them in my house. Since I thought the lemon would also damage the plastic flowers, I put the vase on the bookshelf. So what did the lemon do? It came and went, meowed in front of the flowers, jumped and tried to reach them, when it saw it couldn't reach them, it kept calling me to where the flowers were so I could put them down so it could ruin them. We couldn't put anything in the house without him knowing. Anything new that came to the house would have to be inspected by the gentleman first, he would smell it first and find out what it was, otherwise we wouldn't be able to sleep, you see.

Now they are quite used to plastic flowers, we even added a new flower to them recently. If you ask what happened to the succulents, they live outside the window. It is unknown whether they will ever come inside again...
